James Harris Mishler, sunrise 4/13/1956, sunset 1/20/2019, 62 years of age and nearing 8 years as a Pancreatic Cancer Survivor, answered the Lord’s call to come home surrounded by his family, in peace. We thank the 911 operator, paramedics from MFD Station 12, staff, nurses, doctors, physical therapists, and especially Dr. William Dralle for their compassion and skills in seeing him through the trail God laid before him.
Jim was a man of many talents, striving to achieve perfection in every goal. Widely known as a renaissance man, Jim’s talents included guitar playing, painting, carving, home repairs, and being a father and friend. Jim was ‘that’ neighbor always willing to lend a hand, loan a tool, and tell great stories. He was a masterful lead guitarist and played the stage with Three Faces, Thunderoo, and many more musicians known for their benefit concerts to help those in need.
Jim was a UW Milwaukee and Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design graduate. His art is part of the permanent collection at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
A crew leader early in his career for the State of Wisconsin neighborhood revival project in the city, Jim advocated for his crew to receive living wages. He volunteered at every school event for his children and loved most to spend time with his family. Nicknamed “Fish” in childhood, his love of the outdoors and fishing is reflected in his art and in the wonderful memories he created with his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife Teresa (nee Zickrick) of 28 years, children Paul and Katherine, brothers Greg (Pam) Mishler and Steve (Margaret) Mishler, sisters Paula (Mark) Bell and Ann (Marlow) Mishler-Krowe, mother Richardine Mishler, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services for Jim were held from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Forest Home Cemetery Chapel on Friday, January 25th. Jim will be laid to rest at a separate celebration of life burial on September 13th, 2019 at Forest Home Cemetery.
