James Glenn Smith, 75, of Grand Marais, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at North Shore Health Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on June 20th, 1946, to James Munn and Marie Agnes (Cartier) Smith in Chisholm, Minnesota.
Glenn grew up in Creechville – Grand Marais and attended Cook County Schools. He also lived in Tucson, Arizona where he graduated from high school, San Rafael, California and Duluth, Minnesota. He returned to Grand Marais in late 70s.
Glenn’s first job was at Lucy’s Rustic Inn, Grand Marais as a bus boy. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Edwin E Thoreson, as a logger and was self employed as JGS Welding and Repair.
Glenn was an avid reader. His favorites included mystery spy novels, Calvin and Hobbes and Christian Study books. He enjoyed gun restoration, hand loading, RC planes and trucks. He loved watching Hummingbirds, visiting with friends and loved ones.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, James, Melanie (Harley), Tony (Jody), Chris, Aaron (Dagmara), Elissa, and Bruce; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Todd, nieces and nephews, former spouse and friend Dolly, cousins, brothers and sisters in the Lord, and friends.
