James Edwin Schmidt


 

 

James Edwin Schmidt, 67, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the Our Lady of Peace hospice center in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

A private service will be held for the family at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 417 1st Ave. W., Grand Marais, followed by a celebration of life, open to the public from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2.

“Jimmy” was born December 17, 1951, in Two Harbors, Minnesota to Frederick and Catherine (Bell) Schmidt. He grew up in Taconite Harbor where he made many lifelong friendships. He graduated from Cook County High School in 1969 as a talented football player. Jim was a lineman for Arrowhead Electric for over 17 years and later re-trained to become a radiology technician.

Jim loved being in the great outdoors and looked forward to buck hunting every year. He spent countless hours fishing and exploring the woods. He was a dedicated father to his two sons from his first wife Carol Lynn Perkins. Jim loved watching his sons play music and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son Joshua James Schmidt and his wife Kimberly Schmidt and their expected daughter Lennon Grace Schmidt, his son Jacob Michael Schmidt and his wife Crystal Chin and their daughter Kaia Ray Schmidt. James is also survived by his father Frederick Edwin Schmidt, his sister Carol White and her husband Vince White, his brother Frederick Schmidt Jr. and his wife Myra Schmidt, his sister Beverly Edman, and his sister Janie Wagner and her partner Gary Blomberg. He is preceded in death by his mother Catherine in 2010.
