Jagerhaus burns to the ground

A house once owned by David and Margaret Hilton called the “Jagerhaus German Bed & Breakfast” burned to the ground on Tuesday, July 11.

A caller at 8:52 p.m. to the Cook County Law Enforcement Center said the house was fully engulfed.

The house was located at 184 County Road 14, about one mile up County Road 14 from Lake Superior.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Colvill, Maple Hill, and Hovland fire departments were called to the fire.

The large house was noted for its exquisite Scandinavian/Germanic artwork on doors and walls. It was the site of Oktoberfest for the community before David Hilton passed away on November 23, 2004.
