Polar League coaches have selected Vikings’ senior center Emily Jacobsen to the All-Conference First Team.
Jacobsen, who never gives up on a play, broke the 1,000-point barrier earlier this year, becoming one of the few Vikings to score more than 1,000 points in her career. Emily averaged 16.3 points a game, 10.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 2.7 steals per game this season.
Head coach Kelly Senty put Jacobsen’s selection to the first team in perspective.
“All coaches from our conference have a meeting to vote on the best athletes in the conference. We are considered a ‘big school’ in our conference, so we also compete with double-A schools like Esko, Barnum and Moose Lake- Willow River. All of the coaches from each team vote on the best players from our conference. Emily was voted first team all-conference which means that she is 1 of 5 athletes in the whole ‘big school’ section of our conference who received that honor. That is an incredible achievement coming from a smaller school,” said Senty.
Emily is the daughter of Heidi and John (Jake) Jacobsen, Grand Marais.
