“‘Don’t you Cry for Me’ is a reflection of the times we’re living in. The reality is that people can no longer hide their acts of injustice. Now that the victims are hanging before us we are all drastically impacted and affected,” Jacob wrote online.

The 29-year-old Lutsen native is married and living in L.A. and pursuing a career as a single artist. It wasn’t all that long ago that Jacob was the lead singer for Gentlemen Hall where he was known as Cobi Mike, but since the breakup of the band, he is now known as Cobi.

A guitar virtuoso, Cobi played and sang with Gentlemen Hall from 2008 to 2015. Most of the members of the band met at the Boston Berklee College of Music, where Cobi attended. The band won numerous awards, including a Video Music Award (VMA) for “Boston’s Best Act” in 2012. Ben and Jerry’s created a smoothie in the band’s name, sold in the Boston area.

In 2013, the band’s song “Sail into the Sun” was featured in Samsung and Target commercials, and the band also had some of its music played in TV shows “Pretty Little Liars.” Cobi sang the national anthem at the halftime for two New England Patriots football games.

Jacob’s brother, Josh, has a band in the Twin Cities called The Step Rockets. Both collaborate on songs. Josh said he is better at songwriting while Jacob is strongest at writing music. The Cook County News-Herald will have an upcoming feature on both boys, what it was like growing up in the Northland, their journey through music, and the effort it takes to make a living from an industry that is constantly evolving.
