Jacob Dorr Throws a No-Hitter Against Carlton

Cook County senior Jacob Dorr had a day on the mound that he won’t soon forget. The lanky right-hander threw a no-hitter against the Carlton Bulldogs in a game played in Carlton on Tuesday, May 17.

Jacob struck out 11 Bulldogs over five innings. The game was called because of the ten-run rule, with the Vikings leading 14-0.

Amos Falter singled in the first, stole second, and then stole third while Paul Dorr was called out on strikes. Falter scored on a wild pitch, ball 4 to Hunter Gomez, who went to first base. Next, Jacob Dorr doubled to right field on the fourth pitch. Gomez moved to third. Kole Anderson watched two balls go by him and hit the third pitch into center field for a triple, scoring Hunter. The Vikings next two batters struck out and then flied out, stranding Anderson at third base, but the Vikings led 3-0, enough runs to win the game with Dorr pitching masterfully on the mound.

Hunter Gomez drove in two runs in the second with a line drive single to center field that scored Cade Smith and J Shannon.

The Vikings added three more runs in the third, two more in the fourth, and pushed four runs across the plate in the fifth.

Hunter Gomez led off with a triple to start things off in the fifth inning. Jacob Dorr singled to bring Gomez home. Next, Kole Anderson doubled to score Ethan Tate, who subbed in to run for Jacob Dorr. Cy Oberholtzer struck out, and Anderson stayed at second. Benelli Myers took his turn at bat, getting walked while Anderson stole third. Jake Mixdorf came in to run for Kole at third. Cade Smith hit a line drive to right field for a single, scoring Mixdorf while Benelli Myers advanced to third. J Shannon singled to center, scoring Myers as Smith advanced to third. Amos Falter popped out to the second baseman for the second out. No runners advanced. Paul Dorr flied out to end the inning with the Vikings leading 14-0.

Jacob ended the game in the bottom of the fifth by getting the first batter to ground out to second baseman Benelli Myers, who threw the runner out to Cade Smith at first base. Jacob struck out the next two batters to end the game.

All told, the Vikings had 15 hits through five innings of play.

Kole Anderson led Viking batters by going three for four with three RBIs. J Shannon went three for three with two RBIs. Benelli Myers was two for three with one RBI, and Jacob Dorr finished with two hits in four plate appearances and one RBI. Hunter Gomez was two for two with three RBIs, and Amos Falter was two for four with two RBIs. Cade Smith was one for two with an RBI.

The Vikings finished with eight walks and six stolen bases.

The Vikings had one error in the game. Carlton didn’t have any errors.

But this night belonged to Jacob Dorr. A no-hitter is something few pitchers accomplish at any level of baseball.
