It’s time for an economic system that prioritizes ordinary folks

Main Street has been gutted by Wallstreet plenty of times. It is past time we bucked the trend. Any COVID-19 stimulus package must prioritize working people above corporate interests. Trickle down doesn’t work when lobbyists and cronies get special filters and ordinary people are left to hope a few dollars will condense out of corporate goodwill.

We’ve seen the Republican playbook before – put the money in the pockets of lobbyists and big business and leave ordinary folks to hemorrhage from medical bills, rent payments, etc. Enough is enough; it is past time for a single payer health care system that prioritizes the wellbeing of our society over the profits of a few individuals.

It is also time for an economic system that prioritizes ordinary folks and the environment that supports us. We don’t get to survive if the world dies. We cannot survive with an economic system, which does not recognize this.

We can rise above and decide we are better than our base instincts or we can embrace them and burn. I pray we consider our actions to this pandemic with care and that we apply them to the climate crisis, which will make this look like a walk in a bleeding garden.
