It’s Girl Scout cookie time!

Come and get ‘em! Last year Daisy Scout (L-R) Abbey Stoddard, Hattie Kunze, Shelby Sjogren, Hazel Kemp, and Malin Anderson took orders for Girl Scout cookies. Come and get ‘em! Last year Daisy Scout (L-R) Abbey Stoddard, Hattie Kunze, Shelby Sjogren, Hazel Kemp, and Malin Anderson took orders for Girl Scout cookies. This year, Cook County Girl Scouts are selling cookies through “direct sales” which means you don’t have to wait for your delicious cookies.

This year the Girl Scouts of Cook County will be bringing some new things to Girl Scout cookie sales. There will be direct cookie sales and also a new kind of cookie. This year girls from elementary to high school will be selling cookies throughout Cook County.

“Direct sales” of cookies means that the Scouts will have access to the cookies as they sell and you will have your cookies right away. Some girls may take orders over the phone or e-mail. You may still see some sheets at your workplace – if someone there is related to a Scout. Toward March you will be seeing booth sales at local businesses and community events. Not interested in the cookies for yourself but interested in supporting Girl Scouts? You can also buy boxes for the Food Shelf and they will be delivered for you.

The new cookie is called “shout out.” It is a tasty, cinnamon flavored wafer that tastes great with milk or coffee. All the favorite cookies are still available – Thin Mints, Caramel Delites, Lemonade Cookies, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches and All Abouts. Cookies are still $3.50 per box.

The Girl Scouts sell cookies to raise money to go on special trips such as camping with the troop or as an individual at a Girl Scout Summer Camp. Another kind of trip is an official Girl Scout trip. Next year there is going to be a special trip to Savannah, Ga. to celebrate Juliette Lowe’s 100th birthday. There is also something called “OUR WORLD, OUR FAMILY” which is a jamboree-style camp for Girl Scouts. Local service projects are funded by cookies as well – tea parties at the Care Center, alumni campfires, and day camp at Fisherman’s Picnic.

The individual Scout sale dates start on Feb. 5 and end on Feb. 17. Booth sales will go on until March 17, so look forward to seeing Girl Scouts all around the county with cookies.
