It takes a village to host Fisherman’s Picnic and Lumber Camp

On behalf of the Central Boiler and Wood-Mizer Lumber Camp and its sponsors including Husqvarna, Steve’s Sports, Hedstrom Lumber Company, Nace Hagemann Construction, Wildfire Protection Systems and the MN Army National Guard, we would like to thank all who helped make the 2010 Fisherman’s Picnic possible.

First, the Grand Marais Lions Club for their work on the entire event. The Fisherman’s picnic has a long history and is a tremendous effort of the Grand Marais Lions Club.

A special thank you to all of the officers and deputies of the Cook County Sheriff ’s Department, the fire department and city employees for all the extra effort that is required.

Local businesses deserve recognition for all of the extra service provided during the event. We would like to have a special mention for the Java Moose, Harbor Inn and the Wild Onion for being so supportive of such a large production on their front steps.

Thank you to the North Shore Rollers and the parents for facilitating log rolling for Grand Marais youth. Especially Julie Collman for building a tank for the kids, for coaching and driving the athletes up the Trail for extra training sessions at the Atkinson pond. We appreciate Grand Marais Fusion for sponsoring the team this year. A big thanks to Mark and Jan Herbert of Naturally Unique for donating cool Lake Superior rock awards for all events.

Our on-site crew including Harmon Hanson (camp crew boss), Dave Sievert, Tyler Berard, Ben Larson and his cousin Eli, Jessica Berg-Collman and Anders Zimmer were a great help. A special thanks to our camp cook, Jennifer Hanson, for making sure we took time to eat and for all the donut shop runs. The camp boss couldn’t make it without two raspberries and a maple to start the work day. Special thanks to Byron and Kathy McLean for showing up every year on site during production, clean up, and with trucking support. Thanks to Aaron Mielke and Anders Zimmer for driving our parade displays. Judd Collman and his boys were also a great help during setup and with cleanup and trucking of lumber and slab with their truck and trailer.

It takes a lot of people to make a great event like the Fisherman’s Picnic, so thank you to all who participated in the effort!
