“Not the end of the world.” This is one of the few statements in Editor Rhonda Silence’s February 13 op-ed piece Not the end of the world that I can only partially agree with. Each small piece of land that is wasted is part of the world. And becomes a tragedy all its own if used unwisely.
I read your whole column, and was mystified at one of the your last statements, “In truth it doesn’t matter all that much what mankind does on the real estate near the lake and the hills.”
I beg to differ, it matters very much what “mankind” does on the land anywhere!
Your statement would find open pit and strip mining acceptable anywhere as long as it’s not by the “harbor.”
I find your editorializing with such a broad brush demeaning and rather insulting.
If you would take the same walk along the lake as you suggest everyone else should do, you may realize what a gift we have all been given and that nothing is guaranteed. Before you embrace this type of retail enterprise you may want to reflect on what our little town may look like after the dust settles, you may not like what you see.
Once the genie is out of the bottle, you will be hard pressed to get him back inside.
