ISD166 special board meeting: Mask Policy updated

All five board members, along with acting Superintendent Megan Meyers and various community members met, via zoom, on Thursday, June 24 at 5 p.m. for a Special Agenda School Board Meeting. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the Mask Policy that was put into place via executive orders in August of 2020.

Members met to maintain that clear communication be shared with both the staff and families of the Cook County Schools. As recommendations have begun to change from the CDC, a revisit to the existing policy was necessary to ensure the policy was relevant and that potential suggested options were discussed to move forward.

The directive for summer was to maintain the current active policy and to add an additional clause to the existing policy. This addition was passed in a 4-1 vote and reads, “When not in the physical presence of students age-ineligible for the COVID-19 vaccine and for 12 weeks post eligibility date”, masks should be worn.”

Masks will still be mandatory for all school transportation situations. The board will continue to stay current with all school, county, state and CDC guidelines/recommendations and plans to revisit the mask policy again during their August 19 school board meeting prior to the beginning of the 2021-2022 academic year.
