Starting November 30, elementary students in kindergarten through third grade will no longer attend Sawtooth Elementary in-person. Instead, they will be instructed by their teachers through distance learning until January 18.
Parents and the community were notified about the change through a COVID- 19 planning update email sent last week by ISD 166 Acting Superintendent/ Principal Megan Meyers.
Part of the email stated, “Our teachers and staff will be continuing with their distance learning instruction. Our child care will continue to serve the families that qualify for child care under the most recent Executive Order 20-94, which requires schools to provide child care for children (12 or under) of tier 1 critical workers. It is intended for extreme circumstances in which no parent or guardian is at home, as all of the parents or legal guardians in the child’s household are Tier 1 critical workers. School districts may also encourage parents or legal guardians of eligible children to not utilize the school-age care program if they have the ability to work from home.”
The decision to suspend in-person classes came from the Cook County School Incident Command Team on the heels of a countywide and statewide spike in COVID-19 cases.
