Is it safe?

Fish consumption program set for April 27

On Wednesday, April 27, the Grand Marais Congregational Church (UCC) will host a program about the safety of eating fish from 5 to 7 p.m.

Organizers want to know what influences moms’ and women’s decisions about eating fish. Attendees will talk about fishing, eating fish, what types of fish you eat – including what fish are your favorites, how often do you eat fish, where do you get the fish, and where you eat it (at home, restaurant, friends/relatives).

Organizers are seeking women of childbearing age (minimally 18 years of age) to participate in a one-time discussion group. Childcare and a meal catered by the Cook County Co-op will be provided.

Each adult participant in the discussion group will receive a $25 VISA gift card. Participants in the discussion group will need to eat at least some fish, or their families eat at least some fish, caught by themselves, family members, or friends.

The discussion will last approximately two hours and be held at the UCC. Participants are not required to have children in order to participate in the discussion.

The discussion will be led by a researcher from Cornell University, and there are no right or wrong answers to questions being raised in the discussion group. E-mail Jeanne.carls@state. mn.us or call 1-800-657-3908 or 651-201-4901 to register.
