The I.S.D. 166 school board took the interim PK-12 vice principal tag off of Mitch Dorr in a special board meeting held Thursday, March 22.

Acting PK-12 principal Dr. William (Bill) DeWitt was also officially given the PK-12 principal title during the short board meeting.

Longtime history teacher Mr. Dorr became the acting interim principal in early January, taking over the position held by Mr. DeWitt, who moved up to the K-12 principal position following the resignation of K-12 principal Adam Nelson.

Nelson left to become superintendent of Wrenshall High School.

Three other items of business were conducted.

The board authorized bids seeking contractors who could build/ remodel a new science lab and culinary arts space over this coming summer. Work may begin before school lets out this spring if feasible.

The estimated cost of those two expansions including room equipment/ lab equipment is expected to cost about $2.6 million.

Also approved was the purchase of a 47-passenger bus.

The money used to pay for the improvements to the school and the bus comes from bond funds approved by voters in November 2016.
