An advisory committee has been established at School District 166 (ISD 166) to look at ways to enhance the industrial technology program.
The committee is looking for ways to expand the shop, free up storage space, and open up opportunities for larger projects involving automobiles and recreational vehicles.
Industrial tech instructor Eli Hill said, “Although times are tight and changes are slow in coming, the response from several members of the community has been positive and I think we can make some major improvements with creative planning and community support.”
The Industrial Tech Department was able to recently purchase a new 18” Powermatic planer for the woodshop, using budgeted health and safety funds. Hill said, “The new planer isn’t nearly as noisy and is much safer and easier for kids to operate.”
As a fundraiser, the old Delta planer (model 22-200 w/3-phase motor) will be offered up for sale. Anyone interested can contact the school for more information.
The shop program has been very happy with the community’s response to its request for donations of wood, metal and other consumables. “Thisis really wonderful, and the materials donated help us do projects we otherwise couldn’t afford,” said Hill.
Hill said there are still many other materials that could be used. Contact Hill at the school if you would like to help out. Also, contact him if you are interested on serving on the Industrial Tech Advisory Committee.
