An all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash in Lutsen just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, resulted in injuries to two women from Victoria, Minnesota.
Jennifer E. Barrett, 46, was traveling westbound in the south ditch along the highway in a 2013 Polaris Ranger, a “side-by-side” machine. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the ATV came to a narrow pass and because the machine was too wide, it rolled down the embankment into a culvert about 15 feet down.
Jolene M. Burton, 67, also of Victoria, and a 7-year-old male were also riding in the ATV and according to the State Patrol report, both were wearing seatbelts. Barrett, the driver, was not wearing a seatbelt. None of the occupants were wearing a helmet.
Lutsen Fire and First Responders were on scene by 5:10 p.m. Because of the location of the ATV, Lutsen Fire Department was asked to bring a tender truck with ladder to assist with getting the patients out of the ravine.
The two women suffered possible head and neck injuries. The young boy had non-life-threatening injuries, a “goose egg” bump on his head. All three people were transported to North Shore Health by Cook County Ambulance.
All parties were treated and released in stable condition.
