On March 12, 2010 at 3:23 a.m. the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office received a call reporting an injured party at the Minnesota Power Taconite Harbor Energy Center in Schroeder. The call was relayed to Cook County in a convoluted manner. The information was given to Cook County Law Enforcement from Lake County dispatch, which had received a call from St. Louis County reporting an anonymous emergency 911 call of an injury at Taconite Harbor.
William Hale Sausman, age 45, from Silver Bay, was found injured at one of the outbuildings on the Minnesota Power property. Sausman apparently fell while trying to steal copper.
Sausman was transported to Duluth due to the extent of his injuries.
According to Cook County Law Enforcement, Sausman is being criminally prosecuted for felony burglary and felony level criminal damage to property. He will make his first court appearance in Cook County at 9:00 a.m. on June 23.
