Indoctrination is like other addictions

Nelda and I are back to square one. It goes without saying, we all have a constitutionally protected right to our differing choices of religious beliefs. My earlier letter was not “bitter” as Nelda sees it, but contained a heavy dose of sarcasm, as we are bombarded ad nauseam with the recitation of banal biblical passages.

My original plea was to cease hobbling our youth with a sense of human inadequacy; nor to suggest a need to submit to a supernatural “God” figure for help; nor to bind youth with images of heaven if compliance and hell if they do not accept the prescribed beliefs. Indoctrination is like other addictions. It can be very difficult to free oneself from the grip of its mind controlling superstitions.

Finally, our treasured lives are mortal. No amount of wishful thinking changes this. Love and live life well.
