Independent candidate is free to listen to citizens

If you don’t work for the government here in Cook County, you probably work for (or operate) a small business. We all know how critical these are to our economy, and how difficult it can be for them to maintain employees and keep things afloat from season to season.

Kelsey Johnson is running for state representative from our district, and her background makes her uniquely qualified to focus on easing regulatory and property tax burdens, and other problems small businesses (and small communities) face. She understands the importance of growing our economy by keeping these businesses healthy, and providing more jobs and new opportunities for all of us—especially for our kids who grew up here and want to stay. She has a lot of good ideas about our part of the state that are worth a look.

What’s critical here, though, is that Kelsey Johnson is running as an independent. Nobody owns her, or dictates how she votes on the issues that affect us. She’s free to listen to us, and act on our behalf. She’s passionate about helping our families preserve our way of life here, keeping it affordable and addressing such unique needs as healthcare that would allow our seniors to stay longer in their homes and our communities.

Maybe, like me, you’ve voted for one party (or the other) all your adult life—and ended up with barely any voice at all in St. Paul. I think it’s time for all of us to consider changing that. Time to vote for a real independent like Kelsey Johnson; someone who knows us and who will keep giving our needs and our problems the attention and the voice we deserve.
