Ina S. Radloff, 97, passed away peacefully July 21, 2014 at the North Shore Care Center in Grand Marais of Alzheimer’s disease.
Ina was born Feb. 3, 1917 in Farmersburg, Iowa to William and Ella Ihlenfeldt. She married Lawrence (Shorty) Radloff on June 26, 1935. During their married life they owned several businesses in northeast Iowa and Minnesota. They moved to the Mille Lacs Lake area in 1952, where they owned and operated “Shorty’s Resort.”
Upon the death of her husband in 1967, Ina and her son Gary ran the resort until she sold it in 1968 and moved to the Twin Cities area to be near her family. In 2009 she moved to Grand Marais with her son and his wife.
Ina is survived by her son Gary C. (Janet) Radloff of Grand Marais; son-in-law Larry W. Day of Coon Rapids; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Brent) Aase of Coon Rapids, Gary L. (Stephanie) Radloff of Grand Marais, Jennifer (Chris) Snell of Coon Rapids and Will W. Day of Duluth; and eight great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Alex Fystrom, Jack C. Radloff, Levi and Evan Aase, and Ryan, Jackson and Kaylen Snell.
Ina was preceded in death by her husband, son D’Wayne and daughter Bonnie Day, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Reviewal and services were held at 10 a.m. July 25 at the Leonard Funeral Home in Monona, Iowa with burial at the Farmersburg Cemetery.
Ina’s family expresses gratitude to the North Shore Care Center staff and the doctors of the Cook County Hospital, especially Dr. Sandra Stover, for their compassion, dedication and wonderful care, and for working with them to help understand and cope with the disease.
Gifts donated to Ina’s memory will be given to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais.
