As I read the comments about the use of the 1% sales tax levy, I am amazed that more of our county leaders are not addressing the use of those funds for projects which will benefit Cook County—such as the hospital, the school, the community center and the library. I was under the impression that the purpose of this levy was to benefit the citizens of our county.
And, yes, this would preclude the use of these funds for Superior National. Even the supporters of this ‘semi-private’ course for a few Cook County residents admit that the nationwide trend is for fewer and fewer rounds of golf each year. Even if improvements were made and the course became one of the best in Northern Minnesota, I do not believe we would see any change in this trend to fewer and fewer rounds of golf. I do not believe that the taxpayers of Cook County should be forced to fund Superior National for the benefit of a few.
Lets get real and look out for all of our residents, not just a few.
