It is now easier to find the picture books you’re looking for at the Grand Marais Public Library.
Patsy Ingebrigtsen, juvenile and reference librarian, said she has recently completed a big project to make the children’s section more accessible and user-friendly.
“It was a rather big change with one of the juvenile collections. I’ve rearranged all the picture books according to category,” she said. “As you probably know the books are organized by author’s last name. It can be very frustrating for kids and adults to find the book they want when they have something specific in mind, such as potty training, truck books, big sister or brother book, stories about real things or people, losing a pet, etc.”
After doing some research, Ingebrigtsen said, she decided it was worth the time and effort to make this change to the collection.
“We have nearly 1,800 books in the picture book collection and to accomplish this all the books had to be updated in the catalog, re-labeled, and of course categories chosen – not as easy as you may think for quite a few of them!” recalled Ingebrigtsen.
Ingebrigtsen invites all to stop by the library to see the changes, and welcomes suggestions. “Let me know if you have any comments,” she said.
Ingebrigtsen can be reached at the library (218) 387-1140.
