Where to begin? Does one talk about Republican efforts to steal future elections through gerrymandering and voter suppression? What about putting bounties out for pregnant women? In Texas it is theoretically possible to rape a woman and turn her in for 10k. That is some straight up Taliban level messed up Republican party. How do you vote for that and look a woman in the face ever again? I guess it doesn’t matter if one thinks one should be holding a whip and chain at the same time.
Don’t get me started on the hypocrisy inherent in those same politicians suggesting we bomb the Taliban into oblivion (civilians be collateral as usual) for their transgressions against Western civilization. Destruction and violence are the easy way out. We owe the people of Afghanistan the hard way, especially after the civilian casualties we inflicted and the waste of federal dollars on independent contractors. Yet, looming over the fetid swamp of all of this is climate change. We are 30 years and counting behind where we ought to be. Now it is no longer about what we want to do, what is politically expedient to do, what has a price tag we like or want. Now it is about what we need to do and that will seem radical, and it will be expensive, very expensive. The alternative is likely untenable. If a project isn’t carbon positive, it probably shouldn’t happen. If it isn’t carbon neutral, it should not happen. If the result of the project in its day-to-day operations isn’t carbon neutral, it should not happen. Yeah, not nice, not neat, not comfortable, not normal, neat, easy, not cheap. We are past that.
