North Shore cross country runner Ian Thorpe ran to first place in the Ely Invitational cross country meet that was held on October 4th. Ian ran 17:6.9 for the Boys’ varsity 5k, beating Caid Chittum of Ely by eight seconds.
North Shore Head Coach, April Wahlstrom didn’t take a full squad to the meet, instead resting some of her runners for upcoming meets.
Finishing in order for North Shore was Tristen Surbaugh 29th (19:14.7); Clay Thorpe 33rd (19:20), Nicholas Swartz 37th (19:25.1), Brayden Schmidt 38th (19:26.7); Adam Oberg 55th (20:13.7); Andrew Hallberg, 80th (21:16.9); Haddon Taylor 85th (21:26.6); Grant Oberg 86th (21:26.9); Rylan Brown 103rd (22:10.7); Edwin Erickson 105th (22:16.1); Alex Stone 126th (24:13.7); Odin Hansen 140th (25:10.1); Robert Rodriquez 142nd (25:13.7).
The boys finished fourth out of nine teams. Ely won the competition with 48 points.
Junior High Boys 2.6k
Timmy Green of Mesabi East won the boys’ 2.6k race with a time of 9:16.2. Georgi Dimitrov was the top runner for North Shore with a 6th place (9:49) finish. Not far behind was Chance Jabosen 8th (10:03.3); Ethan Fish 9th (10:04.7); Talon DeBoer 12th (10:15.4); General Higgins 25th (10:50.7); Erik Gischia 33rd (11:12); Cole Pederson 35th (11:13); Eero Moody 40th (11:39.3); Dylan O’Brien 41st (11:40.1); Lucas Hackett 51st (13:42.5); Lute Jansen 53rd (15:54.9); and Logan Smith 58th (17:52.9).
Girls Varsity
The North Shore girl’s varsity ran without some of its top runners and placed sixth out of nine teams. Hibbing won the girl’s meet with 43 points.
Jocelyn Carr placed 17th (21:36.5) to lead her team. Proctor’s Lizzy Harnell won the individual title with a time of 20:13.7.
North Shore’s next runners finished in this order: Lexi Surbaugh 29th (22:28.9); London Smith 30th (22:29.4); Genevieve Silence 84th (27:08); Signe Myers 85th (27:08.4); and Shawanda Everson 108th (31:00.1).
Junior High Girls 2.6k
North Shore’s Sierra Geatz won the 2.6k junior high girl’s race in 9:58.6. Sierra defeated Cloe Green of Mesabi East by seven seconds. Finishing next for North Shore was Brianna Monson 5th (11:07), Ryleigh Thorpe 7th (11:14.7); Grace Swartz 10th (11:25.9); Elizabeth Swartz 18th (12:26.9); Leah Belmore 29th (12:56.2); Sophi Lindstrom 30th (13:04.2); Iris Works 38th (13:45.4); Maya Rodriguez 40th (14:07.9); Anni Dix 41st (15:39.5); and Hazel Liechty 43rd (15:47.6).
