Only four years out of college, Ian Sylvester has been promoted to the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force.

Ian received his commission on October 29. His wife, Colleen, and his mother, Annette, pinned his Captain’s bars on his uniform.

The 2007 graduate of Cook County High School holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) where he attended school on a ROTC scholarship.

Ian and his wife live in Great Falls, Montana, where he is stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

In addition to the rigors of a military career, the busy couple has two children, Elizabeth, who will be 2 on November 26, and Erin, who was born on September 4, 2015.

An Eagle Scout, Ian has been in the military full time for 3½ years. He is the son of proud parents Jeff and Annette Sylvester, Grand Marais, and the grandson of Richard (Rick) and Dorothy Knecht, also of Grand Marais.
