Carrie Jansen was welcomed as the newest member of the I.S.D. 166 school board at the first meeting of the new year, the board’s organizational meeting held Jan. 5.
Elections were held to determine the 2017 school board officers. Sissy Lunde was elected board chair, Deb White board clerk, and Chris Goettl board treasurer. Jansen and Jeanne Anderson fill out the five-member board.
The board chose to continue to meet on the third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m., with an informal community discussion time 15 minutes before each meeting.
Board members each took a variety of committee assignments, which total 23 groups the board—or representatives of the board—meets with throughout the year.
Cook County I.S.D. school board members will receive a stipend of $2,300 to cover regular meetings, special meetings and work sessions for 2017. The board chair will receive an additional $700. Appointed contract negotiators for the Cook County Education Association (2), Teamsters, confidential employees and the pre-K principal, will receive $35 per negotiation. The school board adopted the current IRS mileage rate of 53.4 cents per mile, as submitted by board members, for meetings in and out of the district.
