I.S.D. 166 holds Veteran’s Day program

High winds and rain kept a lot of people from attending the November 11 Veteran’s Day program held in I.S.D. 166 gymnasium, but fort those who did weather the storm, it was a great program.

Following the Honor Guard posting of the colors, the CCHS band played the State Spangled Banner and the audience rose for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Next, the high school band, led by I.S.D. 166 Band instructor Mikkel Haas, played the Battle Hymn of the Republic and then Minnesota State Trooper Andrew Olson stepped to the podium to give the keynote address.

Olson and his family are new to Cook County. He spent years in the military and has been working in Aitkin and will soon join the state patrol for our area. He talked about the sacrifices both the soldiers and their families make when a soldier is deployed far from home.

I.S.D. 166 superintendent called on the veterans from the various branches of the military to stand and be recognized and honored.

The band played Armed Forces-The Pride of America! And then Jonah Schmidt played Taps as the honor Guard retired the colors.

The day ended for many members of American Legion Post 413 and the Post 413 Legion Auxiliary meeting for a meal at Birch Terrace.
