In late May, in front of about a dozen friends and family members, several area youths (and a few hardy adults) jumped into Lake Superior. The leap into the icy water was for a good cause. Jumpers took the plunge to raise money and shoes for disaster relief.

The fundraiser was supported by Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland. According to participants, the jump was lots of fun. And according to Pastor Kris Garey of Trinity Lutheran, “Brrrrr!”

Thanks to the spring splash, 170 pairs of new and gently-used shoes were delivered last week to Soles4Soul. The money raised helped with delivery costs. The shoes are distributed to areas affected by disaster and poverty in the United States and around the world.

Pastor Kris said, “Thanks to the kids for a great idea, to the Hovland Volunteer Fire Department and all the folks who helped, donated and enjoyed the fun.”

Gently used shoes were collected for the Soles4Soul program. Pastor Kris, Martine Redshaw and Kristen Carlsgaard check out the 170 pairs of shoes that were donated.
