After years of hoping to get a recycling trailer somewhere in Hovland, it finally got done.
Cook County commissioners, at the request of District One commissioner Bobby Deschampe, gave their okay to have a trailer placed at 3023 North Road in Hovland east of the Arrowhead Trail at the county garage. Deschampe has been an active advocate of recycling, and he also wanted a trailer placed closer to where residents lived in his district.
The trailer was delivered Friday, December 8.
“We hope to put a trailer there for cardboard in the future,” said Cook County Land Services Director Tim Nelson. “It wasn’t ready at this point,” he added.
The station is not staffed at this time, Nelson said, and for the immediate future, there are no plans to staff it.
With 10 bins for separate items in the recycling trailer, Hovland residents can now recycle #1 and #2 plastic, tin, all colors of glass, steel cans, aluminum cans, etc.
The trailer is set up for residential use, and business people with large loads of recyclables are encouraged to take those loads to Grand Marais.
Hovland is the sixth location for recycling in the county. Other sites are located in Lutsen, Tofte, Grand Portage, Grand Marais and at the end of the Gunflint Trail.
