Instead of maintaining the existing dock memorial, the Cook County Historical Society and the Cook County government left us with three large rocks last Friday, September 8, (and if that wasn’t bad enough, the rocks are really ugly!), so that no one would drive on the dock.
As a resident of Hovland, I am simply overwhelmed by their concern for my safety. Heaven forbid that I would drive out on that 115-year-old dock and plunge three feet to my death.
And even worse, heaven forbid they would strive to maintain a memorial to our early settlers, while talking out of the other side of their mouths about spending three-quarters of a million dollars to “restore” the old dock as a tribute to the early residents of Hovland!
Give me a break from their political platitudes!
