Grand Hill Gallery owner Doug Nielsen will present a new show of original works by five Minnesota landscape painters—including Neil Sherman of Hovland—from Nov. 29 through Dec. 24 in St. Paul. The show is titled The Gift of Landscape.

Richard Abraham, Joshua Cunningham, Mike Rada and Nielsen are the other featured artists in the show which spotlights over 50 new and original oil paintings with the artists exploring the light, air, color and subtlety of the world around us as it plays out through the seasons.

There will be new works of all sizes from the studio and created on location, in plein air.

One of Sherman’s entries is The Old Hovland Dock, an oil on mounted linen plein air painting.

“What I strive to capture in my paintings is the feeling of a particular day. Each day is different, especially on the north shore of Lake Superior where, often, every couple of hours can be different. Those days or hours may never be repeated again, so capturing the essence is important so that people who have known those days and hours can remember and others who have not known can be transported there via the painting,” said Sherman.

Grand Hill Gallery is located at 333 Grand Ave., Suite 101, St. Paul at the intersection of Ramsey, Grand and 35E.
