Here is an architect’s drawing of the $283,000 hospital to be constructed in Grand Marais by the North Shore Hospital Association. The association said Sherman Benson, chairman, is awaiting the “go ahead” signal from the state board of heath and the architect, Magny, Tusler & Setter, Minneapolis, before issuing a call for bids. Funds are ready, said Benson, with $100,000 to be supplied by a bond issue approved by Cook County residents and $59,000 raised by public subscription. Federal aid of 45 percent of cost of construction has been certified.
For the second time in two years, the voters in this county have authorized a hospital for Cook County. The vote Tuesday was 560 yes to 188 no.
Thevote two years ago was found invalid and a new election was necessary.
The total vote cast in the first election was 838; in the second 748. Of the votes cast in the first election, 83 percent were yes votes; in the second, approximately 75 percent.
The drop in approval was most noticeable in the Lutsen and Village precincts, although all precints voted for the project. In one, Grand Portage, the vote was unanimous, while in Hovland there was only one no vote.
