Thesearch continues for a replacement for North Shore Hospital Administrator Diane Pearson, who will be retiring in the near future. So far, the hospital board and officials from the hospital’s management partner, St. Luke’s of Duluth, have interviewed two candidates, but neither of them were offered the job.
According to St. Luke’s Vice President of Clinics Sandra Barkley in a June 22 phone interview, hospitals are facing a lot of challenges these days. North Shore Hospital is no exception, and they are looking for someone with a lot of executive experience.
Will North Shore Hospital have the finances to pay someone with that level of experience? “I don’t know,” said Barkley.
To help a new administrator get up to speed, St. Luke’s will be available for consultation. According to Barkley, Diane Pearson has made a practice of networking with a group of hospital administrators, something that might help her replacement as well.
How many potential hospital administrators are out looking for a job or a new job? “There are a fair amount out there in the job market,” said Barkley. She was not sure how many would be interested in running a small rural hospital instead of a larger urban one, however.
