Vera Schumann, director of finance for North Shore Hospital and Care Center (CCNSCC) gave the December and year-end financial report to the hospital board on January 21 and said projected losses were less than anticipated.
For the month of December there was a net income loss from operations of $221,152, performing $140,942 behind budget, said Schumann. Gross hospital patient revenues were 18 percent greater than budget with the Care Center revenues running 19 percent less than budget.
Year to date, CCNSCC generated a loss from operations of $847,050, which was $101,125 better than budget and $87,730 ahead of the same time last year.
As far as cash on hand, the facility has 193.5 days of operating capital, which is a lot, said Schumann, but nice to have in case there was a major interruption in government payments or some other unforeseen problem that could arise.
For the year 2015, acute patient days (350) were 8 percent ahead of last year. Swing bed days (750) were 15 percent ahead of budget but 16 percent behind last year and Care Center days (9,859) were 21 percent behind budget and 12 percent behind 2014.
Other areas at or ahead of the yearly budget included emergency room visits, up 27 percent, colonoscopy’s, up 32 percent, physical and occupational therapy, up 8 percent, laboratory was up 20 percent and CT/MRI up 24 percent. Falling short of the budget were Observation (3 percent), and billable ambulance runs, which were 18 percent under the yearlong projected budget for that department.
