Although our year-round home is in the Twin Cities, my husband and I have been frequent North Shore/Grand Marais visitors for 25 years. So many visits, in fact, that we decided to buy a home in Grand Marais two years ago. As “from away” homeowners, we would like to think we tread lightly on the local landscape, enjoying the beauty of the town but leaving longtime Grand Marais residents to make the big decisions that affect them on a daily basis.
I have to say, however, that one decision has us dazed and confused. Why was the homeowner/hotelier on Fourth Avenue allowed to construct that towering structure one block up from Highway 61? It is obstructing the view of longtime residents and will ultimately be an eyesore from the harbor. Please don’t allow further construction of this sort to ruin the “small town” feel that Grand Marais is known for.
