from Gunflint Hills Golf Course

The spring meeting of the golf club met on May 11 with Leonard Goodell presiding. Dates were set for leagues and mixed golfing events.

Men’s League will start on May 27; Ladies League on June 1; Senior Men on June 2; and Couples on June 4. Dues for membership and leagues are the same as last year and must be paid before play begins. It is $10 for club membership, and $10 for each league with the exception of $10 per couple. You may pay dues at the clubhouse and find out your schedule of play.

Bob Spry does the scheduling. Rosemary Lamson is in charge of Women’s League; Walt Mianowski and Bob Spry for Seniors; Bob Spry for Men’s League; and the Sjobergs for Couples League. This year the winners of leagues and championships will be awarded gift certificates to be used at the clubhouse shop.

Mike Kunshier is doing a three-person scramble on May 23. Sign up for it at the clubhouse.

There will be a “Mixed Two-Ball” on Memorial Day at 3 p.m. Guests welcome. A potluck will follow, so bring your dish to share, your tableware, and an appetizer. Sign up with your partner on the schedule at the clubhouse on the “mixed” bulletin board. Due to disinterest last year, there was no mixed event, so we are trying to revive it this summer. Please join us. We have fun! Thedates for the mixed events are June 13 at 3 p.m.; July 11 and Aug. 15 at 4 p.m.; and Labor Day at 3 p.m. They are always followed with a potluck and hosts are needed for each one. Sjobergs and Goodells are in charge of Memorial Day.

Carlene Gresczyk has a Ladies Day going at 5 p.m. on Monday evenings. All lady golfers are welcome and no club membership is needed. Just show up for a 5 p.m. tee off.

Gunflint Hills course is in excellent condition. Mike is putting a ladies tee on #6 so there’s a better chance for a hole-in-one for them. He has his patches of wildflowers seeded and it will be especially pretty on the 6th and 7th tee offs. Right now the natural wildflowers are showing off in the woods. Spring beauties, cowslips (marsh marigolds), May flowers, June berry bushes (and soon the apple trees) are blooming. The birds are in concert and all’s right with the world, so come out and we’ll “See you on the course!”
