For the past two years, Cook County School District 166 has hosted a concert in recognition of Veteran’s Day. This year’s event will be held the day after Veteran’s Day, on Monday, November 12 at 2:30 p.m. The concert is conducted in cooperation with American Legion Post 413.
The concert will be held in the varsity gym and is open to all community members. All kindergarten through 12th grade students will attend. There will be patriotic music by the Cook County High School band, conducted by Kerri Bilben, as well as other special music and speakers.
There is no admission charge for this special community event, but anyone interested in bringing package of cookies for the senior high student council’s “Cookies for Troops” project is asked to do so. Just drop them off on your way into the concert.
The student council is also looking for addresses of military personnel for the project. Contact Pam Taylor at the school at (218) 387-2271 with addresses or with questions.
The Grand Portage Veterans Memorial Association is also holding its traditional commemoration on Monday, November 12 at the Grand Portage Veterans Memorial, beginning with a drum ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and flag raising at 11 a.m. Butch Deschampe will be the guest speaker. The Veterans Room will be open after the ceremony and there will be refreshments.
Later that evening, American Legion Post 413 Auxiliary invites veterans to dinner. The meal will be at 5 p.m. and is free to all veterans. The cost is $7 for non-vets.
