Honored at being nominated

I was recently nominated for the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians’ annual “Physician of the Year” award. I have been notified that I have not received the award.

I actually received something far more important to me. I was given the honor of the nomination itself.

When a nomination occurs there has to be someone who feels strongly that a candidate meets the award criteria of comprehensive medical service, community involvement and service as a role model. I had the honor of having a colleague, Dr. Jenny Delfs, nominate me. There can be no higher honor than having someone who knows you well – the good and the bad – still feel you are worthy of the respect involved in an award like this. I was also deeply touched by several support letters from people whose regard I cherish. Frankly, I cried when I read them.

I am also honored to be a part of this community. Twenty-five years ago I moved to Grand Marais and found my home. I am also deeply humbled by all the good wishes I have received since the nomination became public. Thank you all.
