Marcy Olsen, manager of Mike’s Holiday in Grand Marais, will be inducted into the Holiday Stationstores Pinnacle Club later this month.

Holiday Stationstores, a Midwest based convenience store/gas station chain, is proud to announce that Marcy Olsen, of Mike’s Holiday in Grand Marais, will be inducted into the Holiday Stationstores 2010 Pinnacle Club. Taking a quick break from pricing merchandise on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, Olsen visited with the Cook County News-Herald about the recognition.

“Although the award goes to the manager, it’s for the employees too,” Olsen said. “We received this because the employees worked for it.”

Olsen explained that there is a strict criterion that must be met every month, observed by a district manager who visits the store once a month. According to Holiday Stationstores, the Pinnacle Club is reserved for “those elite store managers and district managers of Holiday Stationstores who along with the assistance of their store team members have consistently exceptional results in the areas of sales growth, expense control, age restricted sales compliance, and overall business efficiency.”

Olsen said one very important standard that must be met is compliance with cigarette sale laws. She said employees are randomly tested through the year in “cigarette sting operations.” She said, “If a store fails that, they are immediately out of the running.”

“Our employees passed every criteria every month. I’m very, very, proud of all of them,” she said. Olsen said there are about 10 year-round employees, with a total of about 25 in the busy summer season.

Olsen, who “grew up” in the store that her father, Mike Quaife, opened in 1964, said she is also grateful to her family for all of their help in the Grand Marais store and at the family’s second Holiday Station in Tofte. She said thanks to her husband, Brian Olsen, and daughters Cecelia and Clara.

And of course, Olsen said, “We need to say thank you to our customers!”

Olsen will be recognized at the Pinnacle Club induction ceremony and celebratory events April 20-21 in Minneapolis. The celebration includes a formal luncheon, an evening of theater and fine dining and other special activities. Senior management will honor Olsen and the other members by presenting them a plaque of achievement, a Pinnacle Club logo jacket, and a company gift. All of the staff members will also receive a special Pinnacle Club T-shirt.

There are 447 corporate and franchise Holiday Stationstores in 10 states throughout the upper tier of the United States, including Alaska. Olsen said she is especially proud that the Grand Marais Holiday is one of only seven franchise stores receiving the Pinnacle Club honor.
