Holiday happenings at the Senior Center

Winter has arrived. It seemed like it was fall and then I turned around and it was winter! I am not quite ready for the cold weather this year. My lawn furniture is now covered with snow still on my deck, instead of tucked away safely in my garage. Along with many other chores, I haven’t finished putting up my snow fence. I had better get that up before my septic freezes. On top of all that, I was out shoveling the first snow off of our parking lot and sidewalks at the Senior Center and boom, down I went. It is time to remember the ice and be extra careful about slips and falls.

Holiday and Christmas cards are once again available for purchase at the Senior Center for a great deal! They are only 50 cents each or only $5.00 for a pack of 25 assorted cards.

The Cook County Senior Center bus has a radio once again. Senior Center Director Bev is now calling it “The Party Bus.” About a year ago, vandals broke into our bus and tried to steal the radio. The radio was damaged beyond repair. We had to purchase a new one and have it installed in Duluth. Now we can listen and sing along to music as we tour and travel the miles of adventure!

Speaking of travel, during the month of November, folks from the Senior Center enjoyed three different trips. One was a holiday shopping tip and overnight at the Black Bear Casino and Resort. A fun time was had by all. Gladys Anderson, Betty Larsen and Nona Smith even remembered how to use the elevator correctly this time!

We also enjoyed two different trips to the Grand Portage Casino. On these trips, the transportation is sponsored by the Grand Portage Casino. The Senior Center greatly appreciates their sponsorship!

The Grand Portage Casino Express will be running again on Tuesday, December 13. Transportation cost is free, plus you receive $5 in free slot play and $5 off your lunch entrée in the restaurant!

The Senior Center will be having a holiday party meal on Wednesday, December 14. We will be having roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, followed by a wonderful live Caroling Group (Georgene Daubanton, Melissa Breitsprecher and Jerry Anderson). We will then play a fun gift exchange game, and then to top it off an ice cream social! We hope you will join us.

We hope you will stop in soon and join us for lunch or any of our many activities. You can also check out our daily menu on the Boreal Community Calendar. E-mail reminders for our trips are also sent out via e-mail on Boreal. Our monthly newsletter is published the last week of each month. Stop in and pick one up!

Remember, the Senior Center is open and welcoming to all of all ages!
