The holiday season was a memorable and joyous one for residents of North Shore Health Care Center. There was music and carolers of all ages, holiday foods, gift giving, and good times with family and friends. The residents want to thank the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, Care Center employees, and several families and friends for their generous donations.
2017 is here! There was some reminiscing and trivia about last year, and resolutions made for the New Year. With the holidays behind us, the residents are looking forward to some of their favorite winter activities. The Knifty Knitters will again be starting in January to make some of those warm hats that everyone enjoys! There will be more games too, to fill the long winter months along with some fun winter crafts.
We hope to have our new multi-purpose room complete for the first dance of the year on Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m. when we welcome back Portage Band. As always, we invite family, friends, and community members to join us. Additional live music in January will feature Myron Bursheim on Sundays, Al Fuller on Mondays, and Susan Scherer on Wednesdays. Thanks to all the other musicians who come in on occasion to bring the joy of music to our residents.
The monthly birthday party will be held on Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. We don’t have any residents who have a birthday in January. However, we never let the opportunity slip by to have a party! There will be plenty of cake and ice cream along with favorite piano tunes by Doug Sanders. If you celebrate a birthday in January, come and join us for a piece of cake and some great music.
The Grand Marais Lioness Club will host its monthly social for residents on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. with delicious desserts for everyone. Irene Thompson will perform favorite piano tunes.
There will be an outing to the Senior Center for lunch and visiting on Thursday, Jan. 26.
January 22-28 is National Activity Professionals Week – a time to recognize how meaningful activities enrich the quality of life at any age. It is also a time to acknowledge the valuable role of the Activity Department staff, and the many volunteers who make our programs happen all year long. We could not do it without you!
Happy New Year to all from the residents and staff at North Shore Health Care Center.
