Tom Hoy writing again. We have a Charlie Boostrum log cabin on McFarland built in 1936 and currently building a new structure. I enjoy every week’s reading of the paper.
Regarding the tree removal, it looks like MnDOT has a great deal of control – almost absolute power – to make decisions. It seems that reasonable folk would call another public meeting and look at the input by the skilled arborist and whomever MnDOT used to make the determination about the trees and let all parties have the chance to hear the plan and rationale and make comments.
Then however it is decided the taxpayers and residents will have had the opportunity to express opinions in a less railroaded manner. Just because a bid is awarded to take down trees doesn’t mean it cannot be amended.
It also seems to me that there was a remake of much of this road done like 10 years ago – is it really necessary to mangle it all and disrupt the businesses and travelers again so soon? I do recognize it is the sole highway, and that there is federal money infused also, but is there any reason it shouldn’t be spent prudently?
