Chris Hogan is running for State Senate District 3, an area covering Koochiching, Lake, and Cook counties, northern St. Louis County, and the Hermantown-Proctor area.
Hogan grew up on Rainy Lake on the Canadian border. He is a 1994 graduate of International Falls High School and a 1998 graduate of Bemidji State with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in economics.
“I grew up in the tourism industry and worked at numerous small businesses. I currently live in Silver Creek Township in Lake County. The last 20 years, I have been employed in commercial banking. This has allowed me to serve as a trusted advisor to small businesses of every kind including hospitality, trucking, logging, and real estate developers, throughout our region,” said Hogan.
“My business and life experience provides me a unique perspective on the struggles that small business, families, and industry face. I will bring to the office a broad knowledge. I am passionate about this area and will take that ownership attitude with me to St. Paul. I am the Pro-Industry Pro-Commerce candidate. To rebuild our communities and protect our way of life we must have economic opportunity. This requires industry, including non-ferrous mining in northern St Louis County, Line 3 Extension, fighting for our existing paper industry and iron mines, and diversification of our wood products industry. Like Rep. Stauber, I am supportive of trade unions. The best way we can support trade unions in our area is by creating an environment of industry and commerce.”
Hogan said that when asked if our communities are better off today than they were 25 years ago, when the incumbent first went to St Paul – the answer in many towns is a resounding “no”. “Why has the incumbent not championed Environmental Impact Statement process reform? Why has our wood products industry not been diversified in our region over the last 25 years? Why does state spending grow 6-8 percent annually over the course of his tenure (which he supports) while our household incomes are stagnant at best? Why, while a leader of the Senate, do projects around the sate get bonding while the Stewart River Sewer Project can’t get funded? Results matter. Bakk votes consistently with the DFL for Twin Cities’ interests – big government, tax growth, regulations, and government spending as our communities decay.”
Hogan said he is uncompromising on the Second Amendment right and the Pro-Life cause. Further, he added, “I believe in local ownership, control, and management of waters, lands, and our natural resources. The hard working people of northeastern Minnesota have proven that we can harvest timber and mine in an environmentally responsible way. I will fight for rural and small town areas; specifically industry and a pro-business environment for Senate District 3. Only economic opportunities for our youth can rebuild our communities. Household incomes in our district lag other areas, despite living in an area so rich with unique assets and natural resources. We simply can’t afford another decade or generation of decay of our communities.
“Finally, I am running because it is imperative that those supportive of rural, small towns, and industry, keep the majority in the State Senate. In January of this year the DFL stripped the incumbent from his leadership in the Senate. It is time for a new generation, a new philosophy, and new party to represent our region. The handling of the pandemic lock down ($4 billion state deficit) and the Minneapolis riots ($500 million damage) prove the DFL is unfit to govern. Law enforcement is demoralized like at no time in history. I will always support the local election of our sheriffs and full funding for our law enforcement.
“The DFL is the metro centered party of environmental radicals and secular progressives. They no longer represent small town, rural people – my people. By building on our unique assets and working with local, state, and national leaders, we can turn things around and get industry, commerce and opportunity fired up in our region. I humbly ask for your vote. Let’s give the DFL a defeat in which you can be proud of – because Northern Minnesota Matters!”
