History repeats itself on rough road

I must respond to the front-page article naming the law enforcement officers for the problem of the road condition here on Devil Track Road. No one has driven 50-60 mph on the construction, if they did, they would be jarred off the road. The trucks kicked up some dust and made the road washboardy but they didn’t go 50-60 mph. Since more traffic signs are up I, like others I see, go 20 mph and sometimes 10 mph.

Here’s a quote from an 1894 News-Herald: “The enterprising citizens of Maple Hill have decided to no longer wait the action of the county commissioners to have the road to their settlement put in a passable condition and accordingly, have started work clearing it from stumps and stones in order that they may ride to and from town without having their teeth jarred loose on the way.” Do you see any similarity?
