Interest in history is alive and well this summer. Last month, the Chippewa City Church overflowed with visitors celebrating the 120th anniversary of this beautiful and important structure. Many volunteers and donors made the celebration possible and the fundraising a success.
Likewise, over 2,000 visitors enjoyed the blacksmithing demonstrations and tours inside and around the historic 1911 Bally Blacksmith Shop the last two weekends of July. Countless visitors were curious to see inside the iconic building, some were nostalgic sharing memories of the Bally family, and a few watched the demonstrators for hours.
The Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation and Grand Marais Area Tourism Association funded this event and volunteers made it happen.
Both of these properties are on the National Register of Historic Places and require extensive restoration. It is great to see so much interest and support from the community and those who love its history!
