Jack Blackwell (Billy’s dad)

Jack Blackwell was a Sargent in the US Airforce from 1943-1945 (WWII). During one mission, his plane was hit as he flew over Germany, but they were able to pilot the damaged plane back to base. One person was wounded in that mission. After the war, Jack Blackwell worked on Highway 61 construction and Taconite Harbor construction in Cook County. He passed away from lung cancer in the early 1960s, less than twenty years after the war.
