Tofte elementary school children helped with a special Washington, D.C. tree project. Mike Nelson, Ricky Parent, and Jim Wood are shown December 10, 1970, moving a Christmas tree that was set up for President Nixon’s television ceremony. This tree stood proudly in the foyer of Birch Grove School. The tree was cut for the President’s Park in Washington, D.C. but stayed in Cook County instead and made a school full of children happy.
