As local and national organizations prepare to honor military veterans this weekend, the News-Herald staff wishes to extend its thanks through the republication of this tribute featured on the front page of the Nov. 21, 1929 edition of the newspaper. Included in this year’s local observances are a tribute at the Grand Portage American Legion beginning at 10:30 a.m. Monday; a special ceremony conducted by the Grand Marais American Legion Post 413 at Cook County High School at 2 p.m. Monday; and a special Veterans Day dinner at Grandma Ray’s in Grand Marais from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday (free chicken or roast beef dinners for veterans).
