Historical Reflections

Taken by William Clinch in 1908, this photograph was printed in the News- Herald on July 8, 1943 with the observation: “In the good old days you could go out and hunt yourself a bear anytime, and nobody would interfere; now the bears come hunting you.” Cook County News-Herald archives

According to Mr. Clinch, “The picture was posed by Dr. Bouman, front, and Dr. Nutenagle, rear, on the level space just west of the old post office building – formerly the home of Mr. C.A.A. Nelson’s parents. The doctors were from the Twin Cities, and also visited Cook County in the moose and deer hunting seasons. They were both so pleased with this trophy that they wanted a photograph.”
